Sister Wives Kid Swap

TLC's 'Sister Wives' gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at a very unique American family: Kody Brown, his four wives and their now 17 kids are your typical polygamist family, but for most people, it's considered an unorthodox lifestyle.

In our exclusive sneak peek from this week's episode (Sun., Oct. 30, 9PM ET), we see a storyline that might be the show's most controversial yet. Wife Christine admits that she doesn't get along with her eight-year-old daughter Ysabel -- "I know it's ridiculous to butt heads with an eight-year-old, but we do" -- so Ysabel is packing her bags and moving in with other wife Meri.

"Christine gets disrespect from Ysabel, and it's the funniest thing ... " Kody says during one confessional, before Christine promptly corrects him. "It is not the funniest thing."

It may not be funny, but is letting an eight-year-old child move out of your house a smart parenting decision? Even if she's just moving to another part of your house with another one of your husband's wives?

"I know that Ysabel respects Meri," Christine explains. "There's a lot of things that Meri can give her that I can't."

  3. I wonder how much of this is either " Meri won't be mean to me(expect me to behave)" or " If I move to Meri's I can live with Breanna" ? I think she's in for a huge surprise when Meri is the primary caregiver.
And the word for Kody is asshat.

  4. *** Check out the new pick I put on UPDATE: Solomon Brown is here!

The woman has no stomach after 8 hrs of giving birth?

  5. I'd say it's so Meri can teach her some respect- and she can see the grass isn't always greener on the other side.
Actually, a friend of mine and myself used to toss our kids to the other one for an hr or two, tell them the scoop, and let them talk to the child. It worked often.
Not to say they were going to live there, like this, that's so misleading.

Another thing, it's like Kody thinks Meri is the better mom.

  6. Any husband of mine that moved my kid out of my house for any reason would no longer be my husband. Any Mom that moves her kids to anothers home should be investigated for child abandonment. Why not just say the words ' I don't want you anymore ' to the child out loud.... it couldn't be any plainer if you did. She's 8 for goodness sake, you are the adults.

  7. Still don't understand why Breanna is moving.

  8. Really, she's only 8!!!!

What are they going to do when she's 16?
    I swear!

  9. My 8 year old drives me nuts sometimes but I miss her if she even goes for a sleepover. If anyone even SUGGESTED that she move somewhere else, I would feel like the worse mother in the world. A child belongs with her mother. Breanna is moving because Robyn cannot control her kids and doesn't try. They were bratty before the 'marriage' and I imagine wouldn't have gotten any better. Robyn appears to me as one of those lazy parents who blames everyone else and everything else when the kids don't behave. She has been focused 110% on Kodster and the new baby so allowing Breanna to move out of her home just drives home the message that her 'old' family don't mean much to her anymore. She has already said that she gets her family take her son out and she has a maid. I don't think Robyn likes to do much except fawn over Meri's legal husband.

  10. We were always shipped to grandparents home. I don't have that option with my strong-willed child. I've been an at-home mom with him too. It's hard day in and out sometimes without a break. I will be in the minority, but I don't think it's bad of Christine to want a break if Meri is willing. She trusts Meri to be responsible. I always feel like the more people to love a child the better. I would set a boundry, and not let her go back and forth. Kody on the other hand is an ass.

I put this up below, but here is the 11/06/11 episode is titled-"Another Wife". Any ideas?

  11. ^^I don't think there will be another wife, yet. The episode title is probably them talking about it or one of their relatives getting married or heaven knows what..just trumped up for ratings.

Although I *WOULD* like to see Robyns face when Kody brings home a new wife a few months after she's just had their first baby.

  12. I think this sounds like a great solution to a problem! Ysabel and her mom don't have the best rapport right now, which happens sometimes (frequently!) with parents and children. Luckily for everyone involved, she has another option - and Meri has been dying to have more kids, and has room in her house! I think Kody was just trying to get creative, because trying to discipline Ysabel was driving Christine crazy.

It seems quite possible Ysabel will just learn to appreciate her mom this way, and her mom will still see her a lot, and Ysabel will get the kind of care that Christine would want her to have.

  13. My guess is that it's not much more than a glorified sleepover!

  14. I used to get shipped off to my aunt's for the summer. She was combating breast cancer and it was a really good experience for me. At the end of the summer I didn't want to go back "home" because my parents were abusive drunks.

Everything I learned about being a good parent came from my Aunt.

This time with Mari could be a very good thing.

  15. So Meri is the convenient dumping ground for the bad kids? She gets one of Robyn's and one of Christine's. How about shipping Hunter over there too?

Meri, you see anything risky about the polygamous lifestyle for kids? You've got your own little breeding ground of at-risk kids right at home. Too bad you don't get paid.

Maybe you have a hard time finding a job in your chosen field without a complete degree and maybe now that everybody knows what a mess your family is, potential employers would find a problem with you. I would. As both an employer or a parent, I'd want somebody a lot better to counsel at risk kids.

  16. Sometimes when at your wits end it's nice to have someone you can trust to have your kid for a couple days. My step daughter was constantly mean to me for a few years and she used to spend weekends with my parents or my sister, once we even had her spend an entire month of summer with her bio mom. The point is that it's not like she's sending her to foster care, she's asking for help from someone she can trust and it might be beneficial to their relationship. Unfortunately kids can be really spiteful and disrespectful no matter how good of a parent you are and sometimes its not a bad idea for them to see that their own parents aren't the only one who enforces rules, bedtimes, makes them do their homework or chores. It's not telling the child they aren't welcome or loved, a lot of times they think they are going to have a great time anywhere but home and look forward to going away until where they go is the same as what they left. My stepdaughter learned to appreciate what she had here once she saw what it was like to spend time at relatives or her bio moms home even for just a few days. She learned the grass wasn't always greener on the other side.

  17. Interstingly enough, they talk about how Ysabel is mean to Christine but not Kody and Meri. They never talk about how she is towards Janelle whom Christine is super close to. Why can't she go to Janelle's? Wouldn't that make more sense? They also don't go into how she is Robyn. Now, we know Robyn's kids never really listened to her and need discipline too. However,m Robyn makes it sound like moving in with Meri was "fun trip/break" for both of them. Christine on the other hand, really seemed disturbed by the issue she was having with her daughter and this did not seem fun for her.

  18. What happened to that peaceful and serene Christine that loved being home with the kids? I'll tell you what happened...She lost her place with Kody as youngest newest wife. Ever since the Kodster married Robyn and Christine found out WHEN she was pregnant that the Kodster was acourtin' Robyn and akissin' her before they were even married she has lost her so called serenity. Now not only is she not good with the other wives kids, but her jealousy and repressed anger is effecting her own children. I truly believe this is what is happening with the break down in her own children's lives. They are only acting out in response to their mother's behavior change since The Kodster got himself a new and improved model. LOL I LOVE how she has been complaining to Kody..., "See what I have to deal with ALL of the time???" Meaning..., while you are having so much fun with no day to day responsibilities I am burdened with the REAL duties of raising YOUR children.

HELLO??? Like what did she THINK she was getting into? Why is being a sister wife SOOOOO much harder for her now that Kody added a NEWER wife? Well, I think we all know the answer to that.

  19. Robyn has a maid?!?!

  20. I"m no fan of Robyn however I feel bad for her first kids. They probably never got the attention and limit setting from her first marriage. I can see why they would be so clingy as Kody seems to be the only one to pay attention to them. It could be just the episodes that I've seen also- not sure. They (the adults) all annoy me a little sometimes but I don't like to make negative comments about the kids b/c look at how messed up the parents are. just my two cents.

  21. This is horrifying. I can't imagine giving one of my children to someone else to handle. She's only eight for heaven's sake. Christine is the one with problems, not the child!

    ReplyDelete
  22. You know, now that I think about it, this is probably just trumped up for ratings. The kids are going to stay at Meri's for a week or maybe two.
I saw Christine's kid packing a suitcase. If you move in with someone you pack BOXES.
When you go for a visit you pack a suitcase.

I think TLC is screwing with us.

Also, IMO, Meri is looked at as the "successful" wife since her daughter has said she WANTS to stay in the faith and have sister wives. I don't think any other teens have said that for certain. So Meri must be the one that "did things right" in the eyes of the other wives.

Personally, I still have hope that Meri will leave. I like her.

  23. #1 I don't understand why Christine would send a disrespectful child to another parent just because the child wants to. I don't get this whole situation. It's just bizarre. I can't wrap my mind around that.

    #2 It was Kody's idea????

#3 So, just because Ysabel gets to go to Meri's (for whatever reason) Breanna does too? What the heck? Attention hog...

  24. I am in shock at Christine's comment regarding her daughter Ysabel . That maybe she was meant to be for Meri. If you can't be a mother in the good times and the bad for your child then you need to STOP procreating!!!!!!! Being a mother doesn't mean you give up when you butt heads with your child. Funny how it's both women with new babies that have "gotten rid" of another child. Quit having more babies and spend more time with the ones you already have!

    ReplyDelete
  25. This is all bizarre to me, too! Everyone else in monogamous relationships has to butt heads with their child and not just hand them over to others. Yes, every parent needs a break from time to time. That's why kids may spend a weekend with grandparents or aunts/uncles, etc. But this show did not designate how long they would be staying with Meri. However, if it's longer than a short amount of time, I find that incredibly wrong on both Christine, Robyn & Kody's parts.
